The vision behind our blooming organization is to provide a safe and creative space for girl and women guitarists, at all skill levels, to connect, perform, and elevate their musicianship and artistry through music and artist development programs and events.
Our mission is to provide specialized platforms and resources that help girl and women guitarists increase their network, knowledge, and technical skills while gaining the confidence to shape their own path as artists, songwriters, and musicians.
Our Story
The Girls and Guitars concept was ignited in fall of 2016 when Singer-songwriter and Guitarist Kyla Simone grew curious to find more women of color who shared her love for this 6 string instrument. She took to Instagram and dug deep to discover a unique array of talented artists who, in turn, put her on to other artists within their circle. And just like that the Girls and Guitars showcase was born.

This vision was born out of a desire to see more women guitarists thriving and shaking things up as skillful musicians in a male-dominated industry. She also noticed an obvious imbalance of diversity among women guitarists when carrying out generic searches for female guitarists. This intensified her passion to develop a platform that empowered black and brown female guitarists to strengthen their skills and help to set them up for success within the music world.

In 2021 we relocated from the DMV to the ATL to start the next leg of our business journey where we immediately began hosting showcases and workshops at local venues. Our next step is to develop educational programming for aspiring and blooming girls and women guitar and bass players.
Kicking off locally in the DC Metropolitan area, Girls and Guitars instantly took off and began hosting showcases in other cities as far south as Nashville, TN, and Atlanta GA. Since then we have hosted numerous showcases, guitar clinics, and artist meetups.
